The Sewing for Change COVID-19 Community Initiative
Update
Creative Reuse Toronto is no longer working with this collective initiative. We are transitioning back to our original purposes that were sidetracked by the urgent community need. More news coming on the group that is continuing this work under a different name
The First 5 months of this initiative
There is an urgent need for cloth masks, in Toronto and all of Canada. Many hospitals, long term care homes, grocery stores, delivery services and other essential services have put a call out for protection. So we are listening and quickly responding. We believe everyone should feel safe in the workplace and out in public
Our first set of masks went to Michael Garron Hospital, which was responsible for arranging the donation of materials to us for this purpose. More have been sent out to answer requests from other community agencies working on the front lines. We are also making surgical gowns, caps, headbands and scrub bags on request from long term care homes, hospitals and clinics who are short on medical grade PPE. Please join us by donating materials or funds or volunteering to help sew masks or do other necessary tasks. All information on our needs and goals, as well as our donations wish list and forms to submit for volunteering, donating or requesting masks, are on the Sewing for Change website.
For reasons of safety and security, please DO NOT LEAVE DONATIONS AT OUR DOOR.
